Wanaka Flightseeing
There’s nothing like getting a bird’s eye view of a stunning piece of scenery and the southern region of the South Island has more amazing views than you can shake a stick at, if you were going to shake a stick at scenery, that is.
Wanaka Flightseeing will take you right from Wanaka to Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound, Mount Aspiring, Mount Cook and the West Coast glaciers. So if you’re pushed for time and want to get down to Milford Sound as quick as a flash, instead of a long drive from Queenstown, or you just want to see it all from above, this is an unforgettable experience.
Wanaka Flightseeing’s ‘Flights of Discovery’ take you deep into remote alpine wilderness regions which are only accessible by air. Just peer out of the window and you’ll see non-stop, jaw-dropping, breath-taking scenery at every turn. There’s so much to take in, your eyes will be overloaded enjoying the views of cascading waterfalls of Milford Sound, stunningly clear alpine lakes, the impressive snow-capped peaks of Mount Aspiring and the ancient glaciers of Mount Cook and the stunning West Coast.
"once-in-a-lifetime experiences"
I went on an astonishing flight over Mount Aspiring and Mount Cook, and my jaw was literally on the floor from take-off to landing. Well, ok, metaphorically then. Just looking down on so many snow-capped peaks left and right was mind-blowing. The snow up there was pristine and so white and untouched by any footprints. Only the best climbers make it up there, that’s for sure.
In just a few hours I saw what has taken millions of years for nature to create.
The best thing about Wanaka Flightseeing is that every seat is a window seat, so I didn’t miss a minute of amazing scenery. And the pilot told me loads of fascinating facts and info along the way, so I knew exactly what I was looking at, and just as importantly, how it was formed. It was definitely one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that I’ll never forget.
Wanaka Flightseeing has scheduled Cessna flights departing daily. Their most popular flight is the Fly/Cruise/Fly into Milford Sound, which includes a chance to enjoy a relaxing cruise on the fjord of Milford Sound. This is a great time-saver as the flight takes just one hour and 30 minutes.
Wanaka Flightseeing has been flying from Wanaka since 1999, and the pilots have a wealth of knowledge about the region to share
